Gloria and Harold Peaden have always loved sweet potato pie. They ordered it at every restaurant where they encountered it on the menu, but they were never able to find one equal to Gloria's mother's pie. So, in 1998, the Peadens took matters into their own hands, and the legend was born.

Now the Southern Sweet Potato Pie Company bakes over 3,000 gourmet sweet potato pies each week. Only the freshest ingredients go into its line of delicacies that now include fresh pecan pie and 7 UP pound cake. The Southern Sweet Potato Pie Company’s customers includes Walgreen’s drug stores and SYSCO foods in New Orleans, which distributes all over the greater New Orleans area. Soon the treats will be available through the Bruce Foods Corporation website and at local Shop Rites as well.

The Peadens give credit for much of their recent success to their Small Business Advisor at their local Small Business Development Center (SBDC) who helped them receive a signature loan for operating capital in 2004. They hope to continue expanding their distribution in years to come.
